We Belong To The Wild

In this curated animal collection, cardboard pieces from past and present were created as a celebration of the wild in us all.

If you've ever been inspired by a poem, by nature, by animals, you've known the feeling of belonging to the wild. Whenever I walk in Discovery Park, or snuggle my dog Goose, or feel my heartstrings being pulled when reading a Mary Oliver poem, I know that the wild is alive and well in my soul.

This collection of animal pieces is a celebration of that wild place that lives both inside and outside of ourselves. It lives in the orcas spotted from the ferry boat.  It lives in the little snails slowly making their way through our gardens. The snakes sunning themselves on quiet walking trails in the summer. The wild lives in the 'fat bears' filling up on the abundance of salmon in the fall. It also lives in each and every human.

It's the feeling that we are so lucky to experience in the PNW - the feeling that we belong to the bigger wild.

“Whoever you are, no matter how lonely,

the world offers itself to your imagination,

calls to you like the wild geese, harsh and exciting -

over and over announcing your place in the family of things.”

- Mary Oliver, Wild Geese
