sweet magnolia summer

"Sweet Magnolia Summer" is a group art exhibition by local Magnolia artists that showcases the sweetness and unhurried spirit of our neighborhood in summer.

This show also celebrates the community and gently nudges us to gather together to enjoy art, smile while walking by, linger and chat a little longer in the warm summer evenings.

We are not strangers, we are neighbors.

(curator note) When I first moved to the Magnolia neighborhood, I was walking on 33rd Ave and saw John's incredible murals. • Erik Berkule

Erik Berkule is a local Seattle artist whose work focuses mainly on portraiture, often with a humorous twist. Erik is influenced by the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest, as well as by the destinations he visits while travelling internationally. • Christy M.

I am a self taught artist and the creative and owner of Full Bloom and Co. You can check more example of my work at www.instagram.com/fullbloomandco and on my website www.fullbloomandco.com. I am a mom of two boys, a wife and part-time pharmacist. In order to find myself through the changes of life, I found my creative side after a big move from my own country, Portugal.

My art is inspired by nature, the wonderful flowers we get in our neighborhood and the simple moments of my daily life.

  • Devon Sherman

Devon Sherman is an illustration and comic artist who works primarily in ink, watercolor pencil, and occasionally markers because they are fast, and she is usually in a hurry. Devon has spent most of her life knocking around various English departments - pursuing advanced degrees and teaching literature courses - but after a fairly crushing loss of faith in academia Devon left her PhD program (Rutgers University) and turned her attention to reviving lesser-known dusty classics and other esoteric knowledge with exhaustively illustrated read-alongs. She is currently working on The Anatomy of Melancholy by Robert Burton, published in 1621. The Anatomy of Melancholy is a seventeenth century medical treatise and also supposedly one of the greatest works of literature ever written, which only approximately five living people have read because it is almost 2000 pages long, and honestly it is not an easy read. It does have a really insightful section on werewolves though. In an arguably futile attempt to convince others to read along with her, Devon posts commentary and drawings on her website and Instagram as she reads.
